Well said. As an American, I think the UK should have its own independent space capability, including ASATs.

Blowing up LEO satellites might cause an exponential increase in space debris. https://palmerlabs.io So how would one effectively retaliate against a Russian attack without hitting the tipping point?

Blowing up individual satellites, especially in low Earth orbit, won’t create a cascade effect. Atmospheric drag clears the debris fast enough. It’s not ideal obviously - I’m advocating for having the capability and willingness to do it, not that we should do it if we aren’t forced to by an adversary.
