Greater emphasis on space activities can and does generate seoncd order effects and demand in technological and scientific research. UK has always been known for its strong academic and scientific community. It should not have to be such a great leap of logic to want to harness this potential, especially when the rewards are massive.

Very cool idea. It always impresses me how much space agencies achieve with what are pretty small budgets compared to overall government spending in major economies.

New ways to approach this and perhaps everything the government do, seem like a good idea to me!

> 1% of our total spending is around £12 billion a year, which is about twice the current budget of the entire ESA, and still somewhat less than what NASA spends.

Yes, and NASA was been largely useless since the Apollo years.
